My Ideal Blush

on
Saturday, May 31, 2014
Oh helloooo~! Can you believe it that we are now at the end of the month again? With Summer just around the corner, I'd love to share what's my favorite blush during Spring season. Yes, yes, I know I live in tropical climate, there's no such Spring in here. It feels like Summer the whole year. But, Jakarta weather sucks lately, it's sunny in the morning but suddenly turns gloomy in the afternoon, and rain falls in the night.

Anyway, despite the weather we have in here, when it comes to blush, I tend to wear a coral pink shade. Because, it fits my skin tone the best, mine is a medium skin tone with neutral undertones. I suggest you to find out your skin tone and undertones first before buying blusher, because the result would be more wonderful with the right shade.

The Body Shop Baked-To-Last Blush

Product descriptions: A blusher and a highlighter in a duo palette. Handmade and slow-baked on a terra cotta disc for up to eight hours of deliciously rich color.

Why baked makeup? Because, it's a lightweight product with more pigment, less talc, with super blending capability. Baked makeup has a creamier texture than most powdered makeup, and can be applied wet to give an airbrush kind of finish and better long-lasting coverage.

It has tiny shimmering particles to give a healthy glow to your cheeks.

There are actually two shades, petal and coral. Petal has a more pigmented pinkish color that will suit fair skin tones. I can say the packaging is just so-so, it's made of lightweight plastic, but can you see the beautiful color it has? Also, the shimmer is very light, so it gives your cheek a natural flush that's perfect for daily blush.
However, I don't recommend these two blushers for everyone who have rosacea or blush a lot, because it would emphasize the redness on your cheeks even more.

The ingredients.

A little tip on finding the type of the blush that will suit your skin type. If you have dry skin or fine lines and wrinkles, try a cream blush. If your skin is oily, stick to powder blush. Powder blush is also better when the temperatures go up, while cream blush is better for cold weather.

For me, I personally can choose either powder or cream blush as my skin belongs to a combination type (oily forehead and nose, the rest is normal). So yeah.. It depends on the activities I'll have, if I know I'll do outdoors and likely to sweat, then a powder blush is a perfect choice.

The Body Shop "Oh Deer!" Blusher Brush by Leona Lewis

the body shop oh deer blusher brush review
Quirky shape for a brush, right? It looks like a flower from above.

This must be the cutest blusher brush ever! It's pink, handy, so girly, super-soft, and smooth designed by the talented singer Leona Lewis. The bristles are made of 100% synthetic hair, just like any other The Body Shop products, it's cruelty free! I have no problem whatsoever in applying the blush, it picks up the blush really well and blends the color to my cheeks flawlessly. Here what I'm talking about is The Body Shop Baked-To-Last Blush as I mentioned above.

Contrary to the blush application, I honestly don't like using this for applying face powder. As a comparison, I use Dior Diorskin Nude Compact and it already has its own brush that is way so much easier to control and reach every part of my face.

In conclusion, "Oh Deer!" Blusher Brush is great for blusher, highlighter, and even bronzer. It's named Blusher Brush for a reason after all. Another plus side, it looks cute too!

Here are some tips on applying blush for certain face shape:
  • Long face: Apply blush on the apples and blend out towards the temples.
  • Oval face: Apply blush on the apples of the cheeks or along the cheekbones and blend with a blush brush.
  • Round face: Apply your blush in an angular motion blending from the apples of the cheeks towards the temples.
  • Square face with a stronger jawline: Apply your blush in a linear motion a few inches from the sides of your nose towards the apples of the cheeks.

Swatches and result. Guess which face shape do I have?

Jung In feat. Gary - Your Scent.

Omona, I was so excited when I first listened to their new song, I love Gary oppa! Do you guys watch Running Man? A variety show that's so popular in South Korea and even in East Asia and South East Asia, such as Indonesia! It was daebak too in Australia (I saw lots of fans stalking on the filming site, though mostly are Asian). Gary is one of Running Man family members, he is my MOST favorite member because lots of reasons, he's good-looking, charming, funny, foolish, and sweet with his on-screen couple, Song JiHyo. He's actually a hip-hop rapper, his group named LeeSsang. Jung In herself has already made many collaboration with LeeSsang too. Oh, why am I talking too much? I hope you enjoyed the new song! Click here & here if you want to hear more duet of Jung In and Gary.

Did you know Running Man members are coming with Park JiSung on June 1st - 2nd for Asian Dream Cup 2014?! I want to watch them so badly! I know it's such a wishful thinking, but what do you think, would there be a chance for them to carry out a mission in Jakarta? 'Cause I extremely hope so..! Let me know if you're going to the match as well :)

See you next month, my bumblebees!

Flash of Beauty

on
Saturday, May 24, 2014
Hello my wonderful bumblebees! This time, I want to share my current favorite item to you. If you have read my Q&A post, you'll see that I share some beauty products with my mom. I grabbed this item from her vanity because I was extremely curious as everyone raved about it. Anyway, it's a great find because I totally love this gem to the max!

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm
Clarins Beauty Flash Balm

Product descriptions: The ultimate pick-me-up for tired, stressed skin — Clarins’ brightening balm eliminates signs of fatigue in a flash! Instantly moisturizes and tightens facial contours so skin looks rested and relaxed. Olive and Witch Hazel extracts help smooth the skin’s surface — diffusing the look of lines and wrinkles. Soothing Bisabolol helps restore skin’s youthful glow. Also acts as a make-up base or primer for perfect make-up application and hours of luminous wear.

Moreover, it has received so many awards, such as Winner of Best in Beauty Icon, Winner of Best Instant Skin Perfector, Winner of Best Treatment Product, Winner of Allure magazine's 'Best of Beauty' award for Best Instant Brightener for three consecutive years and it got featured in The Anti-Ageing Beauty Bible. Last but not least, this product is sold once every 20 minutes worldwide.

clarins beauty flash balm swatch photo 20140512_163115_zps0a6f5d68.jpg
The light beige color turns transparent when it's blended.

Directions: Morning or evening, after thorough cleansing and toning, apply (without massaging or rubbing) a very thin layer over the face, neck and eye area. Apply make-up immediately, if desired. Beauty Flash Balm can also be used as a facial mask 2 or 3 times a week.

Lisa Eldgride once reviewed and explained how to use the balm. I use it exactly the same way as hers, after applying my moisturizer and before applying my makeup. So yeah, this is basically a ‘primer’ for me.

Another little tip, since this product is pretty expensive, you would want to completely experience the maximum benefit of it, right? Leave it on for 10 minutes before applying makeup. This will allow the product to settle in your skin and you'll feel the tightening sensation.

I am definitely not a morning person. I sleep late, my sleeping schedule sucks and I know it's not healthy but anyway, whenever I have to wake up early in the morning (the time I'd probably just get like a few hours of sleep or not at all), I would apply this thing and ta-ra, I look more human. LOL.

What I like:
  • does what it claims
  • helps to smooth my skin for better makeup application
  • helps makeup to stay on longer
  • controls oil on T-zone
  • gives a radiant finish
  • nice fragrance
  • rich texture – a little goes along the way
  • allergy-tested and non-comedogenic
What I dislike:
  • can be tricky to apply
Price: IDR 530k per 50ml

Here I present to you, my makeup look with Clarins Beauty Flash Balm! With neither foundation nor BB cream being used at all. I honestly like the result, and think that maybe I don't have to buy BB creams anymore LOL/JK.

As if one selfie is not enough!

Others product that I used:
Face:
Eyes:
Lips:
Yes, I am using three kind of concealers from different brands. I use Za for covering my dark spot, The Body Shop for covering my acne, and Revlon for the under eye areas (sorry that you still be able to see my dark circles, I didn't get to sleep lately plus the shade I own is not lighter than my skin tone, duh!). I love this kind of light makeup, you know how heavy wearing foundation is, that's probably why I have never bought one! And sometimes BB creams also have thick texture like the Etude House Cotton Fit BB Cream. If you are curious how to cover all the imperfections, check this video by Jen! She explained everything thoroughly and gave such great tips. Don't you just want to buy all of her concealers?? Gotta save up my pocket money for that MUFE!

Hope you enjoy your weekend, my bumblebees!

Hair-Free Skin

on
Monday, May 19, 2014
Bikini season is coming! Time to get rid those unwanted hairs. I'm going to share a temporary method that I regularly do every twice a month. Depilatories, more commonly known as hair removal creams, work by breaking down the hair's protein structure so that the hair comes out of the skin easily when you rub off the cream.

nair pretty hair removal soft raspberry
Nair Pretty Hair Removal Cream in soft raspberry

Product description: A delicious smelling formula sensitive to the needs of younger skin, enriched with added moisturisers with a delicious raspberry fragrance, this cream works in as little as 4 minutes to leave skin silky soft.

This is my favorite hair removal cream in Indonesia. LOL! You might hate it but I've got no other choice as it's the best I can find in the drugstore. My first hair removal cream was Veet, but to be honest, 'Indonesian' Veet stinks, I really hate the smell, it stays on my bath room for hours! It made my skin dry and again, stinky. I heard they relaunched the product, with new formula, better packaging and spatula. But would I try? No, thanks. I read from the unsponsored review, it still smells awful and even stings the skin.

During my stay in Singapore, I ran out of hair removal cream, so I went to buy one. Sorry for forgetting which one that I got, but it was from Nair for sensitive skin and it was so damn good. It came with a free pink spatula that I admitted was the most amazing spatula I've ever used (talk about that crappy green spatula from 'Indonesian' Veet).
While when I stayed in New York, I prefer using the one from Veet. Yes, it is completely different from 'Indonesian' Veet!! I bought it at CVS, and was happy because of its great size! On top of that, it is CHEAP. Muahaha! The joy of shopping in the States! FYI, 'Indonesian' Veet costs me around IDR 20k (equals to USD 2) per 25ml for one time usage on my legs and arms area. While the US Veet contains 400ml and you can buy it for only USD 9!

nair pretty hair removal directions
Once again, you must follow the exact directions!

Let me quote the cautions:
Irritation or allergic reaction may occur with some people, even after prior use without adverse effect, therefore test before each use by applying product to a small part of the area where hair is to be removed. Follow directions and wait 24 hours.
If skin appears normal, proceed with full application. Do not use on irritated, sunburned, inflamed or broken skin. Do not use on face, around eyes, in nose, ears or on breast nipples, perianal, or vaginal/genital areas. Avoid contact with eyes. Keep out of reach of children.

The ingredients.

What more can I say? Using hair removal cream is easy and painless. It is unlike razor blade, no nicks and cuts. With shaving, stubble would resurface within two or three days. You might say, go for waxing then, but hey waxing is extremely painful! I actually have a high tolerance on pain, well, I do facial, chemical peeling, whatsoever, I can say they're like moderate pain. Meanwhile, waxing is 9 out of 10 for me (though it depends on which area you wax). I swear, using hair removal cream is what I prefer. The result lasts longer than shaving anyways. A week of smoothness sounds pretty good, doesn't it?

nair pretty hair removal creamnair pretty hair removal cream after
Testing out a small area on my arm. Click to zoom!

Remember not to soap your skin after hair removal. Don't use a body mist or anything that has perfume in it! Instead, I recommend you to spray Avène Thermal Spring Water. Wait at least for 24 hours if you want to use body mist. Alternatively, you may spray the perfume to your clothes. Please note that it is important to exfoliate your skin no matter what method of hair removal you choose to prevent ingrown hairs!

All in all,  I do recommend this brand to those who are new to hair removal. Don't worry that the grown hair will grow back normally, neither thicker nor darker. Really normal.

What I like:
  • nice fruity scent
  • moisturizing ingredients
  • gentle for sensitive skin
  • suitable for legs, bikini and underarms
What I dislike:
  • parabens detected (methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben)
Price: IDR 80k

IU - My Old Story.

Have you listened to IU's new mini album titled A Flower Bookmark? I am not sure if I like this album, it's kind of a different genre to what IU usually sings. All of the songs are apparently a rearrangement of Korean oldies. However, I like the MV!

Mix It Up!

on
Saturday, May 10, 2014
Hello my bumblebees! Do you notice something? I've changed my header to a more friendly appearance! Woohooo~ *with the tone of Big Summer Blowout* There's not much difference, I still keep simple in monochrome just like the old one, but more straightforward with the new font :)

Okay, so I would like to show my favorite lippies at the moment, they are 3 Concept Eyes (3CE) Lip Pigment, a cosmetic brand by Stylenanda. At first, I thought it's not practical whatsoever, but I finally gave in and tried them out.

3ce lip pigment review
The tube design is simple but sleek, very Stylenanda.

Here goes to the review, let's start with the electro pink first! The color of the product is exactly the same with what you have seen on the tube or the box. Therefore, expect a very vivid fuchsia shade from this one, and yes, it is super-pigmented! I really like wearing this color alone, the result of this shade can be seen in this post. One thin layer enough to make a vibrant look. Gosh! This lip color makes me can't wait for Summer!

 photo 20140508_122108_zps22343cb1.jpg
The box of this product is only 7 cm x 4 cm x 2 cm, and the tube is only 11g. Tiny, right?
 photo 20140508_122241_zps0af0a0fa.jpg
Back side, just like the typical Korean products, no English description.

Let's move on to the mink beige! Just like the name of this shade, it has a warm neutral beige shade that I feel it's impossible to wear this color alone. It's too pale. Besides, I'm not confident with that kind of nude lipsticks.

 photo 20140508_121217_zps40afa398.jpg
Excuse the lighting, the tube has the same color with the box in reality.
 photo 20140508_121519_zpsb74857af.jpg
There is actually a further description written inside of the box, but still in Korean.

I purchased Lip Pigment because I was intrigued by the fun idea to mix and match. The bad news is, though it has creamy texture, these lip pigments aren't moisturizing enough for my dry lips. Of course, I wear my lip balm prior to the application, but still it gets me the ugly chapped lips. Therefore, I use my Etude House Woo Baby Plumping Tint right after the lip pigment. Matte finish FAIL :\

Now talk about longevity, if you ever tried the Lime Crime Velvetines, you'd probably get upset with this! 3CE Lip Pigment doesn't dry to matte finish, it's more like semi-matte, it's not fast-drying, and the color comes off pretty easily whenever I drink or eat. However, I shouldn't have compared the Lip Pigments with the Velvetines since they are marketed on a different price.

Let me show you my own version of Spring lip color! I mix both colors (with 1:1.5 ratio of mink beige : electro pink) using my Masami Shouko's mini lip brush. And VOILÀ, now I have a soft rose pink shade!

 photo c4fef844-1e9e-4327-8990-7e8306f3b70a_zpse84fbecc.png
My final look at the top right LOL. How do you like the edit?

What I like:
  • super-pigmented
  • easy to blend
  • realistic packaging
  • can create one-of-a-kind lip color
What I dislike:
  • not moisturizing
  • not long-lasting
 photo 20140508_122130_zpsbd9c7f0a.jpg photo 20140508_121253_zps44b783e4.jpg

Though online shopping is so much feasible nowadays, you should be careful before deciding to purchase it! Because, there are so many fake 3CE Lip Pigment out there. To find out whether it's fake or not, simply check the seal, the seal must be exactly the same like mine. 3CE Lip Pigment only comes in seven shades: bright orange, electro pink, issue, mellow pink, mink beige, wild yellow, and modern white. Other than those shades must be fake! The size of the packaging is also smaller than the fake ones. And lastly remember, the real one doesn't come with free lip brush!

Taesabiae (태사비애) - 사랑의 시작은 설레임에서부터 (Feat. Soohyun of N-White)

Time to chill, weekend is finally here! So this is my recent jam, uh I don't know the English title, but it sounds alike to an OST from whatever drama or movie that I couldn't even recall. I have been listening to their whole mini album called Sweet Love for over a week, all of their songs sound familiar to my ears. I'd totally recommend it to any of my bumblebees who likes to listen to ballad songs.

P.SFollow my blog with Bloglovin too if you haven't. I will surely follow you back!

Hydro Collagen

on
Thursday, May 01, 2014
First post of the month! Another hair care product to review, and this time it's from Schwarzkopf. I'm currently using their shampoo, conditioner and hair mask from the Extra Care Ultimate Repair range. I've been repurchasing it for 3 times already, so you can tell how I much lurrrve 'em. It smells so good, yummy kind of smell you know, like vanilla cupcakes. But unfortunately, in Indonesia especially, we don't get to see the treatment spray within this range in the store. Therefore, I bought the treatment spray from another range called Extra Care Hydro Collagen.

schwarzkopf extra care hydro collagen review
Daily treatment spray for dry and coarse hair.

Product description: The Schwarzkopf Extra Care Hydro Collagen range has been formulated to perfectly rebalance the hair’s moisture levels. The special moisturizing formula contains two key ingredients: Collagen and Hyaluronan. Collagen recovers the hair’s elasticity, making it tangle free and easy to manage; therefore leaving it with a healthy shine. And Hyaluronan recharges the hair with essential moisture without overburdening it, combating dryness and leaving your hair smooth and soft.

schwarzkopf hydro collagen detail
New formula with liquid keratin that precisely repairs hair damage and refills gaps in the hair cuticle.

The liquid is separated into two layers, the top layer is a white milky colored, while the bottom one is probably sky blue just like the bottle. It's said on the website that this product is for longer hair, prone to split ends. Honestly, I thought I'm gonna like it, but I hate the smell of the product during application. It takes several minutes until the smell fades away, but when you sprays a bit too much, the smell will stay, which is terrible! The smell is pretty much like a Chinese herbal medicine that's called arak gosok in Indonesia. I'm not sure what do you call it in English LOL, basically it's something like herbs oil mixed with Chinese white arrack that can heal a sprain.

Directions: Shake bottle well. Spray into towel-dried or dry hair.

schwarzkopf extra care hair repair hydro collagen spray
I shook it really well, huh?

Final verdict: There is no improvement on my hair condition nor I feel the instant result after using the spray on my hair for two weeks. It doesn't make my hair less frizzier and, furthermore, the smell wasn't nice at all. While I was looking for a more inexpensive (ahem, drugstore) product, I ended up regretting it. I would just stick with my The Body Shop serum and spray for now.

It's my bad, I couldn't remember how much did I exactly pay for this, but it shouldn't be more than IDR 50k per 150ml :)

Eliza Doolittle - Missing.

What a catchy tune! I first listened to this song while I was watching 3CE S/S 2014 Pink Edition Ad. I thought maybe I liked the song because of Park SoRa was in the video. My real-life friends know how much I'm obsessed with her. Even if they said, she went under the knife whatsoever, she's just PERF okay! Anyway, back to the song, it just kept repeating in my head. So I watched the ad over and over again with so many repeat button abuse. I finally surrendered myself, I searched out the name of the song and downloaded it! Dam-dam, dam-du-dam, doo-bee-doo
